chocolate mint “greenie” smoothie.

So St. Patricks Day has come and gone but it always reminds me of the Shamrock Shake they have each Spring at McDonalds, which I slurped up as a child as often as my mom allowed it (read: probably fewer times than I could count on one hand but clearly it made a big impact).  Now an adult, I find it a bit scary to think how much junk goes into that fluorescent green shake and wondered whether it would be possible to re-create it using natural ingredients, with my kids still enjoying a wholesome alternative.  A total bonus!  Also, this smoothie has 18 grams of protein per serving – yippee!

apple and cheddar frittata.

Things that are humbling:

1.  Well-meaning, quite public and totally ineffective attempts to discipline a 2 year old boy.

2.  Slipping and becoming submerged in a kids pool (fully clothed) while said ineffective and public discipline is taking place when aforementioned sweet boy doesn’t want to leave…and fishing him out becomes necessary.

3.  5 year olds who offer parenting counsel to mortified Mama in an effort to help me Mama see better results next time.

5.  years.  old.

Lord help me.  And thanks for the dose of humility.

And now let’s talk frittatas. Read more

kid-friendly pretzel chicken tenders.

Look, I’m not saying that having your kids help with dinner will get them to eat it every night, but I think this recipe is a step toward the never-ending “will they or won’t they eat the dinner I’ve slaved over” conundrum. Read more
