wine friday: flying heart red wine.

I don’t have a tattoo, but there was this period in college when the dolphin-on-the-ankle tattoo was big and I seriously considered going for it.  10 years later I’m ink-free and grateful for the better judgement.  Having said that, I think it might have been that quite small but still existent inner rebel in me that drew me to this wine label, which screams “buy me if you loved Guns n Roses in 1988″ or “perfect for bike gang members everywhere.” Read more

wine friday: trader joe’s petit reserve petite sirah.

I’m beginning to realize that so much of life is what you make of it.

Do you have those friends who are so constantly happy it’s a bit sickening, partly because it just is and partly because deep down you flat-out envy their seemingly unending joy?  Yeah, I want me some of that.  And not just because I think it’s be cool to wear a perm-a-smile all day long but because I desire to be un-phased by those waves that seem so huge they might knock me right over.  Maybe by God’s grace with time I’ll become one of those people who stand with feet firmly planted, remaining unmoved as the waves crash over. What do you like to do for fun?

For me, I LOVE time to enjoy my little family.  Last weekend we took the train up to Santa Barbara for a relaxing weekend away and it was 48 hours of pure heaven.  We discovered this Pinot, which I picked up at a local chain grocery store as it was on sale and had a pretty label (pure honesty here, people).  It was kind of like the weekend itself – full, rich, and completely satisfying. wine friday: epicuro primitivo di manduria.

I’m not gunna lie.

I kind of feel like I’m on a roll lately with these wine pics.  And not because I’m some super connoisseur of good but inexpensive wines.  The truth is I’ve got my peeps at TJs who slip me some wicked recommendations.  And maybe there’s a little luck involved.  Or maybe I just like any old bottle of wine.  Well anyway, this one was pretty dang good, and if you don’t believe me you can ask the friends I served it to who have spent an enviable amount of their lives in Italy.

From Southern Italy, a place that’s on my bucket list for some day when my kids are grown and I’m not spending way too much money on diapers, this red is a fruity and sweet blend that pairs well with meats and roasts.

For your consideration:  Epicuro Primitivo Di Manduria

wine friday: peachy canyon incredible red zinfandel.

OH man was this a good find.  A bit splurgy for the cheapskate that I am but so worth every penny.

I picked up this zin for a little celebratory dinner in for my dad who I affectionately call BM (don’t worry about it), and who’s known as Pops to my kiddos.  He turned fifty-something this week, so we ate dinner in and talked and laughed and dined on sausage risotto and beet salad.

My dad’s pretty incredible.  He’s talented and generous and sensitive and just flat-out fabulous.  And a fabulous dad deserves a fabulous wine.  So here we are. Read more

wine friday: rabbit ridge allure de robles.

I know you’ve got a few questions about this picture, for instance:

1.  Why the heck did she pick a wine with a rabbit on the front?

2.  Why is the bottle totally and completely empty?  Like not a drop left in the whole bottle empty.  Is she a complete lush or what? Read more

Un Joyeux Vendredi!  Happy Friday!
