wine friday valentines edition: a spanish tempranillo and an italian bubbly.

February 10, 2012 · Wine Friday, cheap wine, red wine, sparkling white wine, valentines day, wine

Welcome to a special Valentines Day edition of Wine Friday.  A DOUBLE edition.  No, I’m not suggesting you drink 2 bottles of wine with your Special Someone…unless you want to roll into the office with a throbbing headache on Wednesday.

Nope, it’s double Wine Friday because I’ve got 2 picks for you this week depending on your mood (or perhaps who you plan to celebrate The Big Day with will dictate your choice):  the first a casual Spanish red with hints of raspberry.  The second, a sparkling Italian wine if you prefer something a little more celebratory.

First up, La Granja Tempranillo from Northern Spain.  An everyday drinking wine with ripe raspberry flavors, this wine will be a great match for roasted pork, sausages, grilled vegetables and cheeses (really what wine isn’t great with cheese anyway?).  You won’t miss this bottle on the shelf at Trader Joes; it’s the one with the big fat pig on the front.

For your consideration:  La Granja Tempranillo:

$3.99 at Trader Joes.

Next up, Lambrusco Dell’Emilia Bianco, an underrated sweet white Lambrusco with hints of berry.  Forget traditional champagne and enjoy this festive and sweet bubbly with a little chocolate mousse or creme brulee.  Yes please.

$4.99 at Trader Joes.

Happy Friday before Valentines Day!

Got any special plans for the weekend?
